The Homeless Youth Initiative (HYI)
is a graduated transitional living program that assists homeless youth in Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw , Chippewa and Menominee Counties by providing rental assistance, case management, and supportive services for two-year period. All tenants must be actively seeking employment, attending school, and/or participating in brief financial management training.

All youth applying for HYI services are screened and an individualized service plan is created to address any needs that may prevent the youth from sustaining housing. After the youth is placed, program staff maintains regular contact with them and/or their landlords to promote good tenant/landlord relations.
